Frequently Asked Questions – Child Psychology & Assessments

Choosing psychological support or an assessment for your child can raise many questions.
Below you’ll find answers to common questions from expat and international families seeking child psychology services, assessments and therapy in Amsterdam and surrounding cities.

Locations & availability

Where do you offer your services?

I work with families in Amsterdam and all surrounding cities.
I currently see families in flexible locations, making my services very convenient for them.

Some services, such as parent consultations, are typically offered online.

Do families need to live in Amsterdam to work with you?

No. Many families I work with live outside Amsterdam but choose to work with me because I offer flexible location options and due to my experience with expat families, neurodivergence and international school systems.

What ages do you work with?

I work with children and adolescents aged 6–17 years. Parent guidance and consultation sessions are also available.

Do I need a referral from a GP or school?

No referral is required. Parents can contact me directly to schedule an intake or assessment.

Assessment-related questions

What is the difference between an ADHD assessment and a psychoeducational assessment?

An ADHD assessment focuses on attention, impulsivity, executive functioning and behavioral patterns.
A psychoeducational assessment provides a broader overview of learning, cognitive abilities and academic skills, and may help identify learning differences, giftedness or twice-exceptionality.

Autism-specific questions

How do you assess autism in bright or multilingual children?

Autism can present differently in bright, verbal or multilingual children. My assessment approach is designed to recognize more subtle or masked presentations and takes cultural and language factors into account.

Do you take a neurodiversity-affirming approach?

Yes. Assessments and therapy are neurodiversity-affirming and strengths-based, focusing on understanding and supporting a child’s unique profile rather than “fixing” them.

Therapy-related questions

When should I consider therapy for my child?

Therapy may be helpful when a child experiences emotional distress, anxiety, behavioral challenges, difficulties at school, or struggles related to transitions, relocation or neurodivergence.

Are therapy sessions in English?

Yes. All therapy and parent sessions are conducted in English.

Do you involve parents in therapy?

Yes. Parent involvement is an important part of the process. Depending on the child’s needs, parent guidance sessions may be offered alongside child therapy.
